"So thankful to the lovely Heather for all her advice and help while trying to get pregnant. I saw her for 6 sessions of conception reflexology, and I'm delighted to say im now 7 weeks pregnant. The treatments were tailored to my cycle and I found the whole process fascinating and very interesting. I had never had any form of holistic treatment prior to this. Heather is so knowledgeable; giving me diet and lifestyle advice to help me along the way. I can thoroughly recommend her"

Subfertility affects 1 in 5 couples in the UK.  For about 25% of couples no cause is identified, even after complete investigation.

We offer fertility reflexology with Heather, registered midwife and experienced reflexologist with specialist training in 'supporting conception' and 'reproflexology'. Heather is a full member of the Association of Reproductive Reflexologists.

How can Reflexology help?

Reproflexology ( specialist fertility reflexology ) can help support you and your partner both emotionally and physically whilst trying to conceive. Having reflexology treatments induces relaxation and will reduce stress levels that are commonly associated with difficulty conceiving. Research has shown that women using this specialist reflexology have a pregnancy success rate of 68%.

Reflexology can provide the relaxation needed to help return the body to it’s natural balance ready for parenthood. Specialist reproductive reflexology may help couples with fertility problems by balancing the hormone production necessary for conception to occur and promoting good strong health and vitality in the reproductive organs, which includes helping to regulate periods, promote ovulation, reduce PMS and also help increase sperm quality and quantity. Fertility problems can be very stressful and reproflexology can be very supportive during this time.

Studies have shown that high levels of stress cause a prolonged release of cortisol, the stress hormone, which in turn can inhibit the production of fertility hormones and lead to erectile dysfunction in men.

Natural conception

For natural conception it takes three months to produce healthy sperm and one month for a healthy egg. Ideally both the male & female partners would have treatments, particularly in the cases of unexplained infertility. Over a three month period, women are encouraged to chart their cycle so we can explore any hormone imbalances and identify when ovulation occurs.

Natural conception treatment plan

A thorough consultation is conducted initially to look at all the factors surrounding your fertility problems. It is recommended that both partners participate in the initial consultation. It is advisable to undergo routine fertility tests with your GP before your consultation. The results will be analysed and an individual treatment plan created. You will receive advice on diet, lifestyle and dealing with stress to support your fertility journey. The recommended treatment plan for women is weekly reflexology treatments for the first 4 – 6 weeks (throughout the length of your cycle). Treatments then reduce to twice per month around pre and post ovulation.

The recommended treatment plan for men is weekly reflexology treatments for 8 - 12 weeks to encourage the production of healthy sperm. Following the course of treatments further fertility tests can be performed to measure the changes.

Assisted conception

For assisted conception such as IUI, IVF, ICSI, the reflexology is tailored individually to complement the drug protocol. It can enhance the efficiency of the drugs, reduce side effects and reduce any stress and emotional unease that you may experience. There is no evidence that reflexology interferes with medical treatments, in fact if stress is reduced and wellbeing increased, then medical procedures will feel easier.

Assisted conception treatment plan

Ideally it is best to start treatments up to three months before your medical intervention starts as this helps to regulate the menstrual cycle, balance hormones and to reduce side effects from the drugs. If this is not possible try to have at least one treatment before drugs commence. Treatments will be then be weekly throughout the protocol, timing will depend on the type of IVF and the drug regime and can be quite specific around egg collection and transfer. Your individual treatment plan will be disucssed during the inital consultation.

Consultation & Reflexology treatments

The first session is for 120 minutes for couples or 90 minutes for individuals. This time gives us the opportunity to explore your fertility journey and discuss changes that can be made to diet and lifestyle.

Reproductive reflexology treatments are around 45 minutes. Each session lasts for 1 hour which gives us time to discuss any changes to your reproductive health and wellbeing.

After a session of reflexology, you may notice that you feel more relaxed, that body tension eases and you experience improved sleep, better mood, increased energy levels, and a sense of general improved wellbeing.

Try to take it easy for an hour or so after reflexology whilst your body starts to respond to this deeply nurturing treatment.

The therapy room is set in a tranquil, garden log cabin in Walmley, Sutton Coldfield. This purpose built space creates a calming and soothing environment for you to relax.
